Light an MMD scene with Ray-MMD
Start from a working scene and add light and materials in stages while keeping a way back.
Two comparable before-and-after stills and a saved Ray-MMD scene.
STEP BY STEP
Make a no-effect reference
Open the scene copy, keep a fixed camera and render a starting still. Note areas already too bright or dark.
Check: You have a baseline image to compare.Load the basic system
Following the project wiki, add ray.x, the controller and an appropriate skybox. Save another copy before assigning materials.
Check: The scene reopens without errors and the controller is present.Assign materials and ambience
Apply main.fx where appropriate according to the official guide. Add ambient light before increasing exposure; do not fix a black scene by stacking effects blindly.
Check: The character separates from the background without major blown-out areas.Compare and troubleshoot
Render the same camera, compare with the baseline and disable one effect at a time if something fails. Keep a list of files and settings used.
Check: You can reproduce the result and return to the no-effect version.IF SOMETHING FAILS
Quick checks
- If the scene is black, check MME, main.fx assignment and ambient light before adding more effects.
- If performance drops, simplify the scene and test a still.
- If a model looks wrong, inspect its materials rather than assuming every PMX uses the same setup.
