PRACTICAL MMD GUIDE

Choose music and document permissions for MMD

A download or platform listing does not by itself grant rights to put a song in your MMD video. Record the source and terms before editing.

OUTCOME

A working audio file plus evidence of the permitted use and credits ready for publication.

STEP BY STEP

01

Identify the original source

Prefer music you made, a library track, or a song with explicit permission for your intended use. Do not infer permission from another fan video.

Check: You can name the rights holder and point to the original terms.
02

Save evidence of the terms

Record the URL, track title, author, license, retrieval date, attribution requirements, and any commercial or platform limits.

Check: You can later explain why this particular publication was allowed.
03

Prepare a working copy

Keep the original untouched. Make a separate copy for trimming and volume adjustment; inspect the start and end for clicks or clipping.

Check: The working file plays cleanly and the original remains available.
04

Publish with the required credits

Include the specified attribution and link in the video description. Recheck the terms when moving to another platform or monetizing.

Check: The description includes the required author, title, license, and link.

IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG

Quick checks

  • If the license is vague, ask the rights holder or choose another track.
  • If attribution is required, placing it only in your project folder is not enough for the audience.
  • If the platform flags a claim, keep the source evidence and follow its dispute process only when you actually have rights.
